Have you ever had one of those days where you can't quite put your finger on what's going on?
You're functioning.
You're getting things done.
From the outside, everything looks perfectly normal.
But somehow you feel a little... off.
Maybe you feel ungrounded.
Maybe you're struggling to speak up.
Perhaps you've lost your creative spark, you're questioning yourself more than usual, or you're craving a little more quiet and connection.
There can be lots of reasons for the way we feel, of course. Life is busy, emotions change, our bodies get tired and sometimes we simply have too much going on.
Within many spiritual traditions, the chakra system offers another way of thinking about these experiences.
Rather than treating the chakras as something that needs to be constantly “fixed”, you can think of them as a framework for reflection.
A way of asking:
Where could I use a little more balance, attention or intention right now?
You don't have to believe that chakras are literal energy centres to explore the symbolism.
And you certainly don't need to have all seven perfectly “balanced”.
You are a human being, not a seven-point spiritual thermostat.
Your needs change.
Your energy changes.
Your life changes.
And that's perfectly okay.
What Are the Seven Chakras?
In modern spiritual and wellness practices, the chakra system commonly describes seven main energy centres, traditionally associated with different areas of the body and different qualities of human experience.
From the grounding energy of the Root Chakra through to the spiritual awareness associated with the Crown Chakra, each offers a different theme to explore.
You may find some resonate immediately.
Others might leave you completely cold.
That's fine too.
Think of the chakra system as a map for self-reflection rather than a checklist you need to complete.
1. Root Chakra
Grounding • Stability • Security
The Root Chakra, often called Muladhara, is traditionally associated with grounding, stability, security and our connection with the physical world.
It's the foundation of the chakra system.
When you're thinking about your Root Chakra, you might reflect on questions such as:
Do I feel grounded in my everyday life?
Do I have routines that support me?
Where do I feel safe and settled?
What helps me come back into the present moment?
You don't have to interpret a difficult day as a “blocked Root Chakra”.
Instead, perhaps it's simply an invitation to notice whether you're feeling particularly scattered or disconnected and consider what might help you feel more settled.
Ways to explore Root energy
Spend time outdoors.
Walk.
Slow down.
Create a comforting routine.
Eat something nourishing.
Tidy a space that has been bothering you.
Put your feet on the ground and take a few conscious breaths.
Sometimes grounding is wonderfully ordinary.
Crystals traditionally associated with the Root Chakra
Black Tourmaline
Smoky Quartz
Red Jasper
Hematite
2. Sacral Chakra
Creativity • Emotion • Pleasure • Flow
The Sacral Chakra, or Svadhisthana, is traditionally associated with creativity, emotional expression, pleasure, sensuality and flow.
This is the part of the chakra system that invites you to ask whether you're allowing yourself to feel, create and enjoy.
When life becomes dominated by responsibilities, productivity and endless to-do lists, creativity and pleasure can quietly disappear from the picture.
So ask yourself:
When did I last do something simply because I enjoyed it?
What makes me feel creatively alive?
Am I allowing myself to experience my emotions rather than immediately trying to tidy them away?
Ways to explore Sacral energy
Put on music and dance around the kitchen.
Paint.
Cook something new.
Write.
Spend time near water.
Try something you've never done before.
Give yourself permission to play.
Not everything needs to have a purpose.

Orange Calcite
Sunstone
Peach Moonstone
3. Solar Plexus Chakra
Confidence • Will • Personal Power
The Solar Plexus Chakra, or Manipura, is traditionally associated with confidence, personal power, motivation, self-esteem and our sense of identity.
This is where you might explore your relationship with self-belief.
Are you constantly second-guessing yourself?
Do you find it difficult to recognise your own achievements?
Are you saying yes when you really mean no?
Are you allowing other people's opinions to become louder than your own?
These aren't proof of a chakra imbalance.
They're simply interesting things to notice.
Ways to explore Solar Plexus energy
Set yourself a small achievable goal.
Celebrate something you've done well.
Spend time in natural sunlight.
Try something outside your comfort zone.
Practise saying no when you genuinely mean no.
Remind yourself of something you've overcome.
Confidence doesn't have to arrive fully formed.
It can be built one small decision at a time.

Tiger's Eye
Pyrite
Yellow Jasper
4. Heart Chakra
Love • Compassion • Connection
The Heart Chakra, or Anahata, sits at the centre of the traditional seven-chakra system and is associated with love, compassion, connection, forgiveness and emotional openness.
This doesn't mean romantic love alone.
The Heart Chakra can invite reflection around your relationship with yourself, other people and the world around you.
Ask yourself:
Am I being kind to myself?
Where could I soften?
Do I feel connected to the people around me?
Are there boundaries I need to honour?
Because compassion doesn't mean endlessly giving to everyone else.
Sometimes the most heart-centered thing you can do is say:
“I need some space.”
Ways to explore Heart energy
Spend time with someone you love.
Connect with nature.
Practise self-compassion.
Write down three things you're grateful for.
Do something kind without expecting anything back.
Or simply give yourself permission to rest.
Crystals traditionally associated with the Heart Chakra
Rose Quartz
Green Aventurine
Rhodonite
Moss Agate
Unakite
5. Throat Chakra
Communication • Expression • Truth
The Throat Chakra, or Vishuddha, is traditionally associated with communication, self-expression, honesty and speaking your truth.
And this isn't necessarily about talking more.
Sometimes it's about saying what you actually mean.
Asking for what you need.
Expressing an opinion.
Setting a boundary.
Or finally having the conversation you've been rehearsing in your head for three weeks.
You might ask yourself:
Where am I holding back?
What do I wish I could say?
Am I communicating honestly?
Do I listen to myself as carefully as I listen to everyone else?
Ways to explore Throat energy
Journal.
Sing.
Read aloud.
Have an honest conversation.
Practise saying no.
Write down something you've been struggling to express.
You don't have to send it.
Sometimes getting the words onto paper is enough to understand what you actually feel.
Crystals traditionally associated with the Throat Chakra
Blue Lace Agate
Sodalite
Aquamarine
Amazonite
6. Third Eye Chakra
Intuition • Insight • Awareness
The Third Eye Chakra, or Ajna, is traditionally associated with intuition, inner awareness, insight and perception.
This is often the chakra people connect with when exploring their inner voice.
But intuition isn't about believing every thought or feeling that crosses your mind.
Sometimes a feeling is intuition.
Sometimes it's anxiety.
Sometimes it's experience recognising a familiar pattern.
Sometimes it's simply a Tuesday.
That's why discernment matters.
Ways to explore Third Eye energy
Spend some time without your phone.
Journal.
Meditate if that feels comfortable.
Sit somewhere quiet.
Notice your thoughts without immediately acting on them.
Ask yourself what you already know before searching for another opinion.
Create space before looking for answers.
Crystals traditionally associated with the Third Eye Chakra
Amethyst
Labradorite
Fluorite
Lapis Lazuli
7. Crown Chakra
Awareness • Spirituality • Perspective
The Crown Chakra, or Sahasrara, is traditionally associated with spiritual connection, awareness, consciousness and a sense of connection to something greater than ourselves.
For some people, that might mean a connection to spirituality.
For others, nature.
The universe.
A sense of purpose.
Or simply moments when life feels bigger than the little details occupying your mind.
You don't need to have a particular spiritual belief to explore this idea.
You might simply ask:
What gives my life meaning?
Where do I find a sense of peace?
What helps me step back and see the bigger picture?
Ways to explore Crown energy
Spend time in stillness.
Look at the night sky.
Meditate.
Spend time in nature.
Read something that expands your perspective.
Allow yourself moments where you don't need to achieve anything.
Sometimes the most valuable thing you can do is simply stop filling every quiet moment.
Crystals traditionally associated with the Crown Chakra
Clear Quartz
Amethyst
Selenite
Lepidolite
Do You Need to Balance All Seven Chakras?
No.
And this is where I think chakra work becomes much more enjoyable.
You don't need to wake up every morning wondering whether your Root Chakra is having a difficult day.
You don't need seven crystals lined up beside your bed.
And you certainly don't need to “fix” yourself before you're allowed to get on with your life.
Instead, use the chakras as a gentle framework for checking in with yourself.
Maybe confidence is your focus right now.
Maybe you're craving more creativity.
Perhaps you're going through a period of change and want to feel grounded.
Or maybe you're simply curious.
Start there.
You Can Work With One Chakra at a Time
If you're new to chakra work, choosing one area can make the whole thing feel much less overwhelming.
Think about what's happening in your life.
Are you craving stability?
Explore Root energy.
Feeling creatively stuck?
Explore the Sacral Chakra.
Working on confidence?
Look towards the Solar Plexus.
Healing your relationship with yourself?
Spend some time with the Heart Chakra.
Finding it difficult to speak up?
Explore the Throat.
Feeling disconnected from your intuition?
The Third Eye may interest you.
Searching for meaning or spiritual connection?
Explore the Crown.
You don't have to do everything at once.
One intention is plenty.
Using Crystals With the Chakras
Crystals are often paired with chakras according to their colour, symbolism and traditional associations.
This can be a lovely way to choose a crystal for your practice.
But you don't have to follow the colour chart perfectly.
If you're drawn to Labradorite while working with your Heart Chakra, use Labradorite.
If Rose Quartz is what you need while focusing on confidence, that's completely fine too.
Your intuition gets a vote.
You can choose according to traditional chakra associations, personal symbolism, colour, crystal properties or simply the one you keep reaching for.
There are no chakra police coming round to check your crystal placement.
A Simple Chakra Check-In
You can turn chakra work into a very simple moment of reflection.
Find somewhere comfortable.
Choose a crystal that feels appropriate.
Take a few slow breaths.
Then move your attention gently through the seven themes.
Root: Do I feel grounded?
Sacral: Am I allowing myself to feel and create?
Solar Plexus: Am I trusting myself?
Heart: Am I treating myself with compassion?
Throat: Am I expressing myself honestly?
Third Eye: Am I making space to listen inwardly?
Crown: What gives me a sense of meaning or connection?
Don't search for a perfect answer.
Simply notice.
Perhaps one question makes you pause longer than the others.
That might be the area you want to explore.
Chakras Are a Journey, Not a Checklist
One of the things I love about working with chakras is that they can change meaning as your life changes.
The chakra that feels important to you today might be completely different six months from now.
A period of change might bring you back to grounding.
A new opportunity might bring confidence into focus.
A difficult relationship might make you explore boundaries and self-love.
A creative chapter might draw you towards Sacral energy.
There is no final destination.
You're always becoming, learning and changing.
And perhaps that's the most useful way to approach chakra work.
Not as something you need to perfect.
But as another language for understanding yourself.
A Little Krystal MagicK Thought
You don't need to be perfectly balanced.
You don't need to have every chakra “working” beautifully every day.
You don't need the perfect crystal collection.
You don't even need to know exactly what you believe.
You can simply be curious.
Notice how you're feeling.
Notice what you need.
Choose a crystal that speaks to you.
Spend a few quiet minutes with yourself.
Then take that awareness back into your everyday life.
Maybe you need to get outside.
Maybe you need to speak up.
Maybe you need to rest.
Maybe you need to create something.
Maybe you need to let yourself be loved.
Maybe you need to trust yourself a little more.
The chakras don't have to give you all the answers.
Sometimes they simply give you better questions.
And those questions can be a beautiful place to begin. 🤍
